WCCWN Member, Michael J. Marx, EdD, will be presenting a Basic Suicide0Awareness Training on August 17, 2020.
Suicide is a topic no one likes to discuss. Yet discussing it is very needed. There is a real possibility that someone will reach out to you for help for themselves or - more likely - for someone else. This presentation will give you the basics you need for such a conversation and the actions you can take when the red flags go up.
All you basically need to do is listen well, ask powerful questions, and help the client formulate an action plan.
- Becoming sensitive to some of the signs of someone who may be considering self-harm.
- Learning how to engage in a productive discussion about the topic of suicide/harm, rather than avoiding the topic.
- Knowing what community resources are available for suicidal individuals, such as local mental health professions, emergency clinics, and suicide hot lines.
